High Tide was designed in 2017 as a creative and elegant way to demonstrate the benefits of PWAs. The web application quickly earned recognition among web app developers, with Google featuring High Tide in a demo during its 2017 Chrome Developer Summit in San Francisco, California. Sailing enthusiasts in 2017 also named the PWA as Cruising World’s App of the Month.

The Problem

At DockYard, we believed in the future of PWA's and the native-like experience they could offer for a fraction of the development cost. We built it as a lightweight app to showcase the power of PWA's.

Tech Stack

Ember.js and vanilla JavaScript.

We used open API's from NOAA to create dynamic charts to represent tide schedules. Users could drag and move the chart to get the tides at different points in the day. The images and background of the app change dynamically based on the time of day and the tide level.
